How to repair a loose Connection on SmartControl main power relay

This guide will demonstrate how to repair a loose connection on a SmartControl main relay. The loose connection on the relay may cause the SmartControl to run intermittently or not run at all.





Caution: Disconnect the positive (RED) lead from the trailer battery before opening the SmartControl


Main relay check/improve/repair

Note: The repair can be done with the relay remaining installed in the box, but care should be taken to ensure the soldering iron does not damage plastics.

Steps to repair Main Solenoid:

1. Open the lid to access the main relay

2. Pry open the relay case with a thin flat blade screwdriver
3. Identify the crimps between each spade terminal and coil wire pins


4. Solder the connection between each spade terminal and each coil wire pin

5. Soldering complete


6. Reassemble the relay into the case with the spade terminals aligned with the side of the mounting tab.
